These essays (one on an Egyptian sculpture, the other on Munch’s painting, The Scream) are terrific examples of formal visual analysis. I have students read the essays and label the accompanying images with the terms and descriptors from the texts. These are very useful for demonstrating the difference between description and interpretation/analysis.
